Steel Structure Projects of Nanchang's Two Major High-Speed Railway Stations Accelerate Construction

Nanchang, January 14 (Reporter) – The construction of key steel structure projects related to Nanchang East Railway Station and Nanchang South Railway Station has been accelerating recently. A series of crucial milestones have been achieved successively, marking significant progress in optimizing the regional transportation network and boosting the development of the "Great Nanchang Metropolitan Area".

As a core hub of the Nanchang-Jingdezhen-Huangshan High-Speed Railway, Nanchang East Railway Station has made remarkable breakthroughs in steel structure construction. As early as April 2023, the steel structure roof construction of the station building was successfully completed, which was the first application of the overall synchronous sliding technology for a three-connected arch roof steel structure in China's railway station buildings. The roof consists of 14 three-connected arch steel trusses, with a total weight of about 1,680 tons. The construction team divided the steel trusses into 190 prefabricated units, with the maximum weight of a single unit reaching 51.8 tons. By adopting the method of integral assembly first and then three-phase pushing and sliding, the project was completed one and a half months ahead of the scheduled schedule.

While the main steel structure of the station building has been completed, the supporting transportation hub projects around Nanchang East Railway Station are also accelerating. The NE and WN ramps of the interchange bridge between Shenzhen Avenue and East Nanchang Avenue, a key road project in the station area, successfully achieved main structure connection in late November 2025. The project involves the hoisting of nearly 40 steel box girders, with the maximum weight of a single segment exceeding 60 tons. To minimize the impact on traffic, the construction team adopted an alternating operation mode of "night hoisting and day welding" and used BIM technology for simulation and real-time monitoring to ensure millimetric precision in closure. It is expected to be open to traffic by the end of 2025, shortening the travel time between Nanchang East Railway Station and the main urban area to less than 15 minutes.

Nanchang South Railway Station, known as the "South Gate of Nanchang", has also made substantial progress in steel structure-related construction. In September 2022, the overall hoisting of the steel truss overpass of the station was successfully completed. The overpass, with a total weight of 220 tons and a total length of 55.4 meters, was hoisted across four existing railway lines with a 650-ton crawler crane. Facing the challenges of short construction window, high precision requirements and difficult coordination, the construction team optimized the scheme through professional software simulation and test hoisting, and finally achieved precise positioning, laying a solid foundation for the completion of the station reconstruction.

In addition, the main structure construction of the steel structure bridge of the Nantang Connection Line, which starts from Nanchang South Railway Station, was completed on November 26, 2025. The 15.66-kilometer-long connection line connects multiple high-speed railway trunk lines such as the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway and the Beijing-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway. The Tangcun Line Station, a key part of the project, is the first case in China to construct and connect a new line at the location of an existing high-speed railway main line bridge. Through the joint construction mechanism, the construction team shortened the scheduled 130-day construction period to 107 days, maximizing construction efficiency. Upon completion, the line will realize interconnection among Nanchang Station, Nanchang East Station, Nanchang South Station and Nanchang West Station.

The accelerated construction of the steel structure projects of these two high-speed railway stations not only reflects the innovation and breakthrough of China's railway construction technology in complex engineering environments but also is of great significance for improving the regional transportation network layout, enhancing passenger travel efficiency and driving the agglomeration and development of surrounding industries. It will further consolidate Nanchang's position as a regional transportation hub and inject strong impetus into the high-quality development of the "Great Nanchang Metropolitan Area".
