Major Project Tour: Successful Drying of Blast Furnace in Ironmaking Project of Linyi Special Steel Project

At 10:16 on April 2nd, with the successful one-time ignition of the burner, the four top-fired hot blast stoves of the ironmaking project of Linyi Special Steel Project, which was EPC contracted by MCC Jingcheng, were successfully ignited and dried. This important milestone node of the project was completed as scheduled, sounding the charge for the full commissioning of the entire Linyi Special Steel Project.

Leaders from all parties concerned witnessed this important moment on the scene, including Li Huaidong, consultant of Linyi Economic Development Zone Investment Promotion Group and fourth-level senior supervisor, Li Chuncui, deputy director of the High-Quality Steel Park Service Center, Zhao Jun, general manager of Linyi Iron and Steel Investment Group Co., Ltd., Wang Wensheng, general manager of Linyi Iron and Steel Investment Group Special Steel Co., Ltd., Ying Wei, deputy general manager of MCC Jingcheng Metallurgical Company, Leng Changming, director of the Project Management Department and on-site commander of Linyi Special Steel Project, Yu Bo, deputy general manager of Shanghai MCC20 Metallurgical Engineering Company. Personnel from the project department, project management and supervision units, and construction units also participated in the event. All parties highly affirmed MCC Jingcheng's project management level and congratulated the successful completion of the important node of the ironmaking project.

The Linyi Special Steel Project is of great strategic significance. It is the largest under-construction metallurgical project of China Minmetals Group, the largest single domestic metallurgical engineering general contracting project in the history of MCC Group, the largest single contract project in the 71-year history of MCC Jingcheng, and the first general contracting project of a steel base with the most complete technological process. Listed as the No. 2 major construction project of Shandong Province in 2020 and the top project of Linyi City, it is an important measure to implement the Shandong Province Advanced Iron and Steel Manufacturing Industry Base Development Plan (2018-2025), attracting high attention and great expectations from governments at all levels and leaders.

The ironmaking project plays a connecting role in the entire full-process steel production. The successful ignition and drying of the hot blast stoves this time not only marks that the ironmaking project has officially entered the countdown to commissioning, but also is of crucial promoting significance for the early completion and commissioning of the full-process project. The four rotary-cut top-fired hot blast stoves contracted by MCC Jingcheng are the company's core patented products for ironmaking, which have been successfully applied to 95 large and medium-sized blast furnaces so far. Indicators such as wind temperature, energy consumption and service life have been in a leading position in the industry.

Since the first shovel of soil was excavated on November 19th, 2020, under the overall arrangement of MCC Jingcheng and the care and support of the owner, the Linyi Special Steel Project Department has carefully planned and scientifically organized the construction. During the process, it has overcome adverse effects such as weather and the COVID-19 pandemic, continuously sorted out the progress plan, actively allocated resources from all parties, and formulated effective measures to ensure the timely realization of various nodes. Successively, the hoisting of the first belt of blast furnace shell was completed on February 1st, 2021, the capping of the blast furnace shell was completed on May 12th, 2021, and the capping of the blast furnace body structure was completed on August 9th, 2021.

2022 is the most critical year for the Linyi Special Steel Project, a year to launch a full sprint for completion and commissioning. Faced with the severe situation of tight construction period and heavy tasks, the project department will take the ignition of the hot blast stove drying as an opportunity to launch the tackling activity of "Fighting the pandemic to ensure commissioning, working hard for 50 days".

MCC Jingcheng Metallurgical Company will increase internal coordination efforts, requiring relevant departments such as design and procurement to fully cooperate and allocate resources from all parties to provide guarantee for the commissioning of the Linyi project. The on-site project team will strengthen construction management capabilities, enhance the awareness of full-process management, and realize refined project management. It is understood that the Linyi Iron and Steel Investment Group Special Steel Co., Ltd.'s annual output of 2.7 million tons of special steel project, where the ironmaking project is located, is a major construction project in Shandong Province. After completion, it will play an important role in expanding the local economic scale and accelerating the conversion of old and new kinetic energy. The ironmaking project of Linyi Special Steel Project, undertaken by Shanghai MCC20 Metallurgical Engineering Company, includes construction contents such as blast furnace body, blast furnace ore (coke) bin, blast furnace main belt charging, blast furnace ore bin dust removal, blast furnace top, blast furnace tuyere platform cast house and public auxiliary facilities.

Since the start of construction, the project has adhered to the principle of standardized management and strictly implemented the "Project Management Manual". Through measures such as careful planning, optimized schemes, reversed construction periods, refined management and technological tackling, it has strictly controlled project quality and safety, and steadily advanced the construction progress. After the successful drying of the hot blast stove on April 2nd, 2022, the blast furnace drying was completed on May 26th, 2022. On July 30th, 2022, the ignition ceremony of the 2770 cubic meter blast furnace of the Linyi Special Steel Project was held, marking that the project entered an accelerated sprint stage. The successful completion of various nodes has laid a solid foundation for the final commissioning of the project and also laid a good foundation for further cooperation between the construction party and the owner.
